not exaggerating. new hire, mid level, passed our interview process somehow. been here 3 months.
- cannot write a for loop without googling it
- doesnt understand git beyond git pull and git push
- asked me what a foreign key is
- every PR has 30+ comments and takes a week to merge
how did this person pass 5 rounds of interviews? is our hiring process just theater?

they probably leetcoded their way through the interview and forgot everything the next day. LC measures memorization not engineering ability

have you considered they might have cheated? with AI tools its trivially easy to pass a coding interview now. especially remote ones

talk to your manager. seriously. this person is dragging the whole team down and its not fair to you or them. either they get the support they need or they get managed out

unpopular opinion: maybe they have skills your interview didnt test for. some people are great at system design, stakeholder management, or domain expertise but struggle with raw coding. not every role needs a coding wizard

"asked me what a foreign key is" at MID LEVEL? nah. that's not a skills gap, that's fraud

ive been on the other side of this. i was that person once. turns out i had severe imposter syndrome and ADHD. the anxiety made me forget basic things i knew. maybe check in on them before assuming the worst
