serious post. 7 yoe. been through 2 layoffs, 1 pip scare, 3 reorgs, and a startup that died.
the one constant through all of it was the gym. at 6am when everything is going to shit at work, i can deadlift 405 and nobody can take that from me.
if you dont exercise, start. i dont care if its walking, running, lifting, whatever. the mental health benefits are not exaggerated. its the best antidepressant i've found.
this industry will chew you up. build something outside of it.

lifting is literally therapy. the discipline, the progress, the community. i started at 135 bench press during my first layoff and now im at 275. the weights dont care about your perf review

climbing is my version of this. cant think about work when youre 30 feet up trying not to fall. forced presence. its incredible

this is great advice but also: if you cant get to the gym because of depression or burnout, dont beat yourself up about it. sometimes the first step is just getting professional help so you CAN start exercising
