got laid off 2 weeks ago. whatever, it happens, im job hunting.
what i CANNOT handle is the linkedin posts. "excited to announce that im exploring new opportunities" with a 2000 word essay about resilience and growth.
and then the comments. "their loss!" "youll land on your feet!" from people who dont even know you. its a grief performance and everyone is in on it.
i just want a job. i dont want to be a linkedin content creator about being unemployed

the linkedin grief industrial complex is real. every layoff creates 500 posts about "what i learned from losing my job" and they all say the same thing

hot take: those posts work. recruiters DO reach out from linkedin layoff posts. the engagement is real even if the sentiment is fake. play the game or dont but dont pretend its not effective

i refused to make the post when i got laid off. found a job in 6 weeks through networking and cold emails. you dont need to perform grief for strangers to get hired

"excited to announce" is the worst possible way to start a layoff post. you are not excited. you are scared and angry. just say that. authenticity > performance

the comments are the worst part. "sending you a DM!" and then the DM is them trying to sell you their career coaching service for $500/month
