i am shaking as i type this. i graduated in may, signed an offer in march, relocated to seattle, signed a lease, bought furniture. the company just emailed me saying they're "restructuring" and my role has been eliminated.
no severance. no notice period. nothing. i have a lease i cant break and about 4k in savings.
what are my options here. i cant even think straight right now

this is genuinely terrible and im sorry. immediate steps:
1. check if you have anything in writing about relocation costs. some offer letters have a clawback clause that works both ways
2. contact your landlord about the lease ASAP. many will work with you if you explain the situation early
3. file for unemployment immediately, you may qualify even as a new grad depending on your state
4. reach out to your university career center. they still help recent grads

name the company. seriously. other new grads deserve to know who does this. if you're worried about burning a bridge, the bridge is already burned — they burned it

lawyer up. promissory estoppel is a real thing. you relocated based on their written offer and they revoked it. a demand letter might get you a few months severance at minimum

this happened to me in 2023. coinbase revoked my offer 1 week before start. i was devastated. ended up getting a better offer at databricks 2 months later. i know it doesnt feel like it now but this will pass

post on linkedin. not as a rage post but as a genuine "hey i'm suddenly available and looking" post. those get insane engagement and recruiters reach out. the sympathy factor is real and there's nothing wrong with using it
