I literally rebuilt our entire ingestion pipeline from scratch. moved us from batch to streaming. cut P95 latency by 60%. oncall pages dropped 80%.
perf review comes around and my manager says "meets expectations, solid quarter."
when I asked what exceeds looks like he said "well you'd need to show more leadership and mentorship." I'm an IC. AN IC.

this is literally every perf cycle at amazon. they decide the rating before the review and then backfill the justification. the "leadership" comment is the classic tell

controversial take: maybe the pipeline rewrite wasnt as hard as you think it was and other people on the team shipped stuff that was just as impactful but less visible
